For businesses
Temp staffing and short-term coverage.
ETS Workforce Solutions fills short-term and temp jobs when clients need coverage. Most of our work is contract to hire, which serves most hiring needs better for both sides. When short-term help is the right answer, here is how we handle it.

What you get
Short-term coverage when you need it.
Temp work is a small part of what ETS does, so you get a clear recommendation. On the first call we tell you whether a short-term assignment fits the need or whether another hiring model will serve you better.
-
Coverage for a defined need
Short-term staffing makes sense for seasonal peaks, an employee on leave, a project with an end date, or a stretch of overtime you would rather not keep paying.
-
The same vetting either way
A one-week assignment gets the same skills assessment and the same reference checks as a permanent placement. Every worker is screened the same way.
-
We will tell you if it is the wrong fit
If the role is ongoing, we will tell you. Filling a permanent job with a series of temps costs more and delivers less than hiring one person.
-
Weekly pay and benefits
Short-term workers are ETS employees and get weekly direct deposit, on-demand earned wages, health insurance and 401(k) eligibility.
How it works
How short-term coverage works.
You get the same recruiters and the same vetting for a shorter assignment.
Tell us the gap
It starts with one call. Tell us the work, the schedule, the length of the assignment and the pay range you have in mind.
We source and check
The process is the same as any other placement. We go to our talent pool, assess skills and check references.
They start on our payroll
They are an ETS employee for the assignment. We handle payroll, taxes, workers comp and the weekly pay run.
The assignment ends, or does not
At the end of the assignment you can let it close, extend it, or move the worker to your payroll if you want them to stay.
What it costs
What short-term coverage costs.
Short-term assignments are billed hourly, in the same range as contract to hire, because the cost of recruiting the person does not shrink with the assignment.
-
Billed by the hour
You pay a bill rate for every hour worked, in the same 40 to 60% band over base pay as contract to hire.
-
Why it is not cheaper
Finding, checking and onboarding the person costs the same whether the assignment is two weeks or two years, which is why short-term does not come at a discount.
-
When contract to hire is better
If there is any chance you would want to keep the person, contract to hire costs the same per hour and gives you the option to hire them at the end.
-
No commitment beyond the assignment
When the assignment ends, your commitment ends with it. There is no notice period and no severance. If you decide you want the worker to stay, tell us and we will set it up.
Questions
Temp staffing questions, answered.
The questions we hear most about short-term and temp work. Call us at (518) 562-4673 for anything else.
Does ETS do temp staffing?
Yes, though it is a small part of what we do. Most of our work is contract to hire and direct hire. We take short-term assignments for seasonal peaks, employees on leave and projects with a defined end date.
How short an assignment will ETS take?
One week is our practical minimum. For anything shorter, the time it takes to find and onboard the right person does not serve either side well.
Is temp cheaper than contract to hire?
No. The bill rate sits in the same 40 to 60% band over base pay, because recruiting, checking and onboarding the person costs the same regardless of how long the assignment runs.
Should I use temp or contract to hire?
If there is any chance you would want to keep the person, use contract to hire. It costs the same per hour and it gives you the option to hire them at the end. Temp staffing makes sense when the work has a clear end date.
Who employs a temporary worker?
ETS does. The worker is on our payroll for the assignment and we carry the taxes, unemployment insurance, workers compensation and paid sick time.
How fast can ETS cover a gap?
Industrial and warehouse coverage is usually sourced within 24 to 48 hours. Skilled and specialized roles take longer, and we give you a realistic timeline on the first call.
Need coverage for a few weeks?
Tell us what you need covered. We will recommend short-term staffing if it is the right answer, or another hiring model if it fits better.
